Foundations of the Internet
I mistakenly thought that a class on the use of the internet was going to be an easy class. Instead it has been very challenging.
We began by learning about ARPANET, Tim Berners-Lee and CERN (the precursor to the internet, scientist who developed the use of HTML and is credited with inventing the World Wide Web, and the nuclear research facility that he Berners-Lee worked for at the time, respectively.) We also learned about navigating the web and details of the browsers.
From there we went on to discover and use web2 tools of various kinds. We've had to create and maintain a blog (check out the link on the sidebar,) use screen captures within our assignments, use various types of search engines for reasearch, how to cite others intellectual property and play with photosharing software. We are learning more about podcasting, newsgroups and other fun things soon.
All of this sounds pretty easy and entertaining but beleive me...it is time consuming! It did not help that our semester was interrupted, repeatedly by record snowfall and floods!
